{"id":9578,"date":"2022-06-06T15:35:15","date_gmt":"2022-06-06T13:35:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/twissen.com\/?p=9578"},"modified":"2022-06-10T12:48:04","modified_gmt":"2022-06-10T10:48:04","slug":"booking-2022-sustainable-travel-report-sustainability-first","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/twissen.com\/en\/trends-en\/ota-travel-agencies-to-en\/booking-2022-sustainable-travel-report-sustainability-first\/","title":{"rendered":"Booking.com 2022 Report: Sustainability first"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In recent times, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twissen.com\/en\/trends-en\/travellers-en\/2021-travel-trends-rising-sustainability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>sustainability <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is becoming a fundamental aspect not only in everyday life, but also on holiday, as witnessed also by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twissen.com\/en\/trends-en\/policies-funding\/eu-invests-12-million-in-sustainable-tourism-and-smes-support-for-covid-19-recovery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">continuous attention of the European Union<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Booking.com<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has compiled the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.booking.com\/download\/1161485\/booking.comsustainabletravelreport2022final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><i>Sustainable Travel Report<\/i><\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in which it indicates how travellers are selecting travel options where particular attention is paid to the effects on the planet, relying on brands that offer <\/span><b>low-impact options<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, throughout the duration of the trip. In fact, 53% of respondents confirmed that they are more determined to make <\/span><b>sustainable choices<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for their trips this year, compared to last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of the most popular solutions include seeking an <\/span><b>authentic cultural experience<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that benefits<\/span><b> local communities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or travelling at <\/span><b>off-peak times<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to avoid overcrowding. Indeed, 64% of respondents say they would be willing to avoid popular destinations and attractions in the next 12 months in order to mitigate the effects of <\/span><b>overcrowding<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nevertheless,\u00a0 there is still a segment of travellers with limited access to information on the sustainability of certain travel solutions, or even know that such information exists. 56% of the interviewees do not care about the <\/span><b>sustainability of the accommodation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> they intend to stay at, but if it is <\/span><b>readily available<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, they will take this into account when booking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At <\/span><b>Twissen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, we have observed that there is a growing demand for more sustainable travel solutions that are transparently communicated and easily accessible. Accommodation providers should therefore be <\/span><b>incentivised <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to continue on their path towards sustainability, also supported by <\/span><b>OTAs <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">through appropriate <\/span><b>certification and reporting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the more sustainable options of a
