{"id":8797,"date":"2022-01-28T19:44:13","date_gmt":"2022-01-28T18:44:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/twissen.com?p=8797"},"modified":"2022-02-10T19:48:30","modified_gmt":"2022-02-10T18:48:30","slug":"dmos-can-foster-sustainable-behaviours-by-analysing-4-clusters-of-tourists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/twissen.com\/en\/trends-en\/travellers-en\/dmos-can-foster-sustainable-behaviours-by-analysing-4-clusters-of-tourists\/","title":{"rendered":"DMOs can foster sustainable behaviours by analysing 4 clusters of tourists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As<\/span><a href=\"\/?p=3554\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">already reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><b>sustainability represents the guiding thread of new tourists\u2019 behaviour and emerging trends.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0However, the willingness expressed by consumers to adopt a more sustainable travel behaviour has not always materialised.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recognising this, the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/etc-corporate.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">European Travel Commission (ETC)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0published a report named<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/etc-corporate.org\/reports\/sustainable-travel-in-an-era-of-disruption-impact-of-covid-19-on-sustainable-tourism-attitudes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSustainable Travel in an Era of Disruption: Impact of Covid-19 on Sustainable Tourism Attitudes\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which aims at supporting European destinations understand the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gap between people\u2019s sustainable values, enhanced by the pandemic, and their related actions<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the analysis of tourists\u2019 behaviours,\u00a0<\/span><b>four distinct clusters<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0have been identified:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Frontrunners:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Low-footprint travellers with the highest likelihood of adopting sustainable travel behaviour in the future. The cluster with the strongest biospheric and altruistic value orientation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Habitual low-footprint travellers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0with interest in alternative destinations in ones\u2019 proximity and in travelling in low season.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Entitled Stewards:\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medium-footprint travellers who are less likely to compromise on location and time of travel but willing to adjust otherwise.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Laggards:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Habitual high-footprint travellers with the lowest level of likelihood for considering sustainable alternatives in the future. The cluster with the weakest biospheric and altruistic value orientation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The study shows that travellers are most likely to adopt sustainable practices in the behavioural category of\u00a0<strong>interacting with the local community and immersing<\/strong>\u00a0in local life. On the other hand,\u00a0<strong>money and time are constraints<\/strong>\u00a0that were found to have a significant impact on the likelihood of adopting more sustainable travel practices in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At<\/span><b>\u00a0Twissen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0we have observed that for DMOs and NTOs it is necessary to understand travel trends and expectations in a pandemic world, in order to properly implement destinations\u2019 infrastructures and services.
