{"id":6611,"date":"2017-02-02T09:05:30","date_gmt":"2017-02-02T08:05:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/twissen.com\/?p=1469\/"},"modified":"2022-02-10T12:00:59","modified_gmt":"2022-02-10T11:00:59","slug":"sustainability-taking-off-in-airports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/twissen.com\/en\/trends-en\/policies-funding\/sustainability-taking-off-in-airports\/","title":{"rendered":"Sustainability taking off in airports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Munich\u00a0airport will cut\u00a0its\u00a0carbon emissions by 60% within 2030, becoming the first zero-emissions airport, as reported by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airportcarbonaccreditation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Airportcarbonaccreditation.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The German airport planned\u00a0a 150 million euros expense to develop this programme of environmental protection, which includes an energy supply deriving from renewable\u00a0sources, control improvements given by new technologies and a better usage of electric vehicles within\u00a0the building.<\/p>\n<p>The Munich\u00a0airport is not the only example\u00a0of sustainable airports. In fact, the Gatwick airport (London, UK) has been\u00a0buying electricity from 100% renewable sources since 2013. During the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Economic Forum<\/a> held in Davos, it has been announced that Gatwick will join the <a href=\"http:\/\/there100.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RE100 alliance<\/a>, which includes all the public and private buildings which completely\u00a0supply from renewable energies. The airport is planning to become carbon neutral by the end of 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The Kuwait International Airport\u00a0was the first in the world to reach the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usgbc.org\/leed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold<\/a> (LEED Gold),\u00a0thanks\u00a0to the thermal properties of its\u00a0concrete structure and to the large expanse of roof-mounted photovoltaic panels to harvest solar energ.\u00a0It is released by the Green Building Council, and certifies its energy efficiency and its environmental impact.<\/p>\n<p>At\u00a0<strong>Twissen<\/strong> we registered a growing attention towards sustainability issues of\u00a0airports, <a href=\"https:\/\/twissen.com\/en\/trends-en\/destinations\/sustainability-tourism-beyond-concerns-twissen-season-report-fall-2016-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as it has happened\u00a0in other sectors<\/a> of the Travel &amp;
