models, an opportunity to restart tourism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The forced cessation of most tourist activities has challenged several industry mechanisms, but at the same time has led players to adopt new business models or take inspiration from other sectors.<\/p>\n<p>This is the case of the so-called <strong>subscription models<\/strong>, i.e. offers based on periodic, often monthly subscriptions, similar to what we experienced with TV on demand services or with gyms, a model that the <a href=\"https:\/\/etc-corporate.org\/uploads\/2021\/02\/2021_ETC_MSIET_Wave_5.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">European Travel Commission<\/a> also supports in its recommendations to restart tourism.<\/p>\n<p>How and where have these models been applied to travel &amp; tourism?<\/p>\n<p>The pandemic has increased the demand for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chinatravelnews.com\/article\/143591\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">long-term stays<\/a> and there are innovative portals as well as traditional platforms that have adapted their offerings on a subscription basis to accommodate the demand driven by the <a href=\"https:\/\/twissen.com\/it\/travellers-it\/workspitality-reinventare-offerta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">workcation<\/a> trend.<\/p>\n<p>Similar mechanisms can be found in offers for <strong>digital nomads<\/strong>, such as subscription rates for 29 consecutive nights within <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizenm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CitizenM<\/a>&#8216;s Global Passport network.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, there are many proposals focused on <strong>co-working<\/strong> spaces, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.selina.com\/cowork\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Selina<\/a>, which offers a monthly subscription for accommodation, use of working spaces and some interesting extra activities.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tripadvisor<\/a> has recently launched its <strong>Plus Program<\/strong>, which is very similar to a loyalty programme, where the user who subscribes receives, among other things, a series of discounts for the facilities affiliated with the platform.<\/p>\n<p>At <strong>Twissen<\/strong> we observed that the growth of the Subscription economy and the emergence of new tourist behaviours are giving rise to new opportunities and business models that allow, among
