{"id":3395,"date":"2021-03-25T08:14:57","date_gmt":"2021-03-25T07:14:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/twissen.com\/?p=3395\/"},"modified":"2022-01-21T11:20:49","modified_gmt":"2022-01-21T10:20:49","slug":"spend-more-stay-longer-consumer-trends-driving-travel-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/twissen.com\/en\/trends-en\/travellers-en\/spend-more-stay-longer-consumer-trends-driving-travel-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Spend more, stay longer: The consumer trends driving travel in 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For many travelers, they\u2019re approaching the one-year mark of the COVID-19 pandemic upending future plans, and they\u2019re looking forward to traveling again.<\/p>\n<p>However, <strong>they\u2019re approaching travel in 2021 with a new mindset<\/strong>, according to the 2021\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a title=\"American Express Travel: Global Travel Trends Report\" href=\"https:\/\/www.americanexpress.com\/en-us\/travel\/fine-hotels-resorts\/get-inspired\/global-travel-trends\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-feathr-click-track=\"true\">American Express Travel: Global Travel Trends Report<\/a>,<\/span> which surveyed 2,000 consumers in the United States and 1,000 travelers in Australia, Canada, Indian, Japan, Mexico and the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>As people work and school remotely, they\u2019re becoming more flexible with when and for how long they travel. According to the report, 54% of respondents say that the freedom and flexibility of being able to live and work while traveling the globe is more appealing now than it was prior to the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>With many travel providers now offering flexible booking options, <strong>travelers are ready to book immediately<\/strong>, with 56% of respondents indicating that they miss travel so much they\u2019re willing to book a trip even if they might have to cancel it in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Travelers are also <strong>interested in lesser-known locations<\/strong>, with 69% of respondents saying they are looking at \u201csecond-city\u201d destinations such as Dallas or Charlotte, North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;] Consumers also consider <strong>personalized experiences<\/strong> (82%) and <strong>high cleanliness standards<\/strong> (81%) the most desirable luxury amenities.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to seeking out luxury experiences, travelers are continuing to invest in culinary tourism, with 62% of respondents saying that eating is the top activity they\u2019re interested in doing while traveling.<\/p>\n<p>Consumers are also increasingly <strong>interested in sustainable travel<\/strong>: 68% of travelers agree that they are trying to be more aware of sustainability-friendly travel brands to support, and 72% say they\u2019re
