{"id":2880,"date":"2020-02-13T11:35:46","date_gmt":"2020-02-13T10:35:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/twissen.com\/?p=2880\/"},"modified":"2022-01-21T11:30:00","modified_gmt":"2022-01-21T10:30:00","slug":"payments-travel-safety-experience-tourists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/twissen.com\/en\/trends-en\/tech-en\/payments-travel-safety-experience-tourists\/","title":{"rendered":"Payments in the travel sector: safety is experience for tourists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today we can all see the positive effects on the customer protection produced by the Payment Service Directive (<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/en\/ALL\/?uri=CELEX%3A32007L0064\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PSD, Directive 2007\/64\/EC<\/a>), which also contributed to the development of Alternative Payment Methods (APM), such as <a href=\"http:\/\/paypal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PayPal<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/pay.amazon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AmazonPay<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/go.wepay.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WePay<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.2checkout.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2Checkout<\/a>, \u2026 just to mention a few of them. The following <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A32015L2366\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PSD2, Directive EU 2015\/2366<\/a>, contributed to create an integrated payment market, safer at a European level, with a specific attention to online payments, <a href=\"https:\/\/twissen.com\/en\/trends-en\/tech-en\/alternative-payment-methods-use-is-growing-on-european-tourism-portals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">also considering the growth of mobile usage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecommercefoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ecommerce Foundation<\/a> realised the Ecommerce Report 2019, highlighting how the B2C e-commerce generated a 547 billion euros turnover in 2018 \u2013 increasing by 12% compared to 2017.<br \/>\nThe report also underlines the growth of mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, and the important role of PayPal as preferred payment method both for goods and services.<br \/>\nThe most \u201cactive\u201d target is the +65 one, particularly for Northern and Western Europe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the travel sector, Spain is shown to be the most profitable market in the e-commerce sector, <\/strong>according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nielsen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nielsen<\/a>\u2019s Global Connected Commerce report.<\/p>\n<p>According to 4Hoteliers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.4hoteliers.com\/features\/article\/13145\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in 2019 the APMs in the travel sector passed the use of traditional methods<\/a>: this trend is expected to intensify in 2020, also in those markets which are still characterised by the payment cards, becoming less preferred by the younger targets.<br \/>\nIt is also foreseen that the cards themselves will be subject to change, becoming more digital, virtual, accessible and safer. The <em>frictionless payment<\/em> concept goes hand in hand with this: an easy payment experience, also intuitive and transparent, made up by at most a couple of clicks, on the favourite device, a transparent exchange rate and quicker anti-fraud checks.<\/p>\n<p>At <strong>Twissen <\/strong>we observed that the <em>seamless booking experience <\/em>is complementing with a <em>frictionless payment<\/em>, enhancing the travel experience, in any phase \u2013 from the airport to the hotel room. Collecting datas and users\u2019 preferences is going to be fundamental in order to define the best payment method for each target.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Payments in
