{"id":2676,"date":"2018-02-22T11:03:38","date_gmt":"2018-02-22T10:03:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/twissen.com\/?p=2676\/"},"modified":"2022-01-21T11:30:01","modified_gmt":"2022-01-21T10:30:01","slug":"travel-marketplaces-are-rising-in-the-travel-tourism-industry-consolidation-scenario","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/twissen.com\/en\/trends-en\/ota-travel-agencies-to-en\/travel-marketplaces-are-rising-in-the-travel-tourism-industry-consolidation-scenario\/","title":{"rendered":"Travel marketplaces rising in the Travel &#038; Tourism industry consolidation scenario"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amadeus.com\/web\/amadeus\/it_IT-IT\/Home-page-Amadeus\/1259076636646-Page-AMAD_HomePpal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amadeus<\/a>, an average traveller organising a holiday searches nearly 50 times online,\u00a0makes 38 site visits, reads a dozen reviews, researches for 15 weeks, and does not have a particular destination in mind when he or she starts looking.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, in its report \u201cOnline Travel 2020: Evolve, Expand or Expire\u201d, foresees different scenarios of the online future of the Travel &amp; Tourism industry, as companies are starting to evolve in order to satisfy their customers. One of the possible scenario is called <strong>\u201cTravel Marketplace\u201d, and it is described as \u201c<em>the players of the travel industry could come together and build their own Travel Marketplace platform for OTAs, airlines, hotels, and other travel-related companies to sell their products and services<\/em>\u201d.<\/strong> In addition, as we have already reported, the <a href=\"https:\/\/twissen.com\/en\/trends-en\/ota-travel-agencies-to-en\/western-players-cooperate-with-chinese-companies-to-satisfy-travellers\/\">Travel &amp; Tourism industry is becoming familiar with a strong consolidation phase<\/a> and an intense period of mergers and acquisitions.<\/p>\n<p>Two of the most relevant operations are outlining the evolution described above.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, Chinese players have been main characters of this phase. First of all <a href=\"http:\/\/english.ctrip.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ctrip<\/a>, China\u2019s leading provider of travel services which can count on more than 300mn users, acquired the social review company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trip.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trip.com<\/a> last year, to support the newly-acquired <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyscanner.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Skyscanner<\/a> in enhancing local recommendations. Trip.com had previously raised about 31,6 million euros (39mn dollars) in funding, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.homeaway.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Homeaway<\/a> was among the investors.<\/p>\n<p>As this is happening in the East, the West has not stood still. In fact, as reported by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chinatravelnews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">China Travel News<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bookingholdings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Priceline Group<\/a>\u00a0(now Booking Holdings) is planning to integrate two of its brands &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rentalcars.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rentalcars<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Booking.com<\/a> &#8211; to set up &#8220;the world\u2019s largest digital platform for experiences&#8221;. The resulting platform will be named <strong>BookingGo, and will be a dedicated global ground transport business unit of Booking.com.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At <strong>Twissen<\/strong> we observed that offering \u201ca one-stop full-service travel booking platform\u201d is one of the strongest trend both for Eastern and Western companies, providing the customer a seamless booking experience, easy to organise.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New business models are growing in a strong consolidation scenario to meet travellers&#8217;
