In fact, as early as 2013, 47% of Europeans over 65 (76 million people) were already travelling, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/centrostudituristicifirenze.it\/blog\/silver-tourism-nel-2030-in-europa-previsti-140-mln-di-turisti-over-60\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">by 2030, the number of tourists over 60 is expected to reach around 140 million.<\/span><\/a><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In response to this trend, Spain launched the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/imserso.es\/espacio-mayores\/envejecimiento-activo\/programa-turismo-imserso\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Programa de Turismo del Imserso<\/span><\/b><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in 1985, an initiative promoted by the Instituto de Mayores y Servicios Sociales (Imserso), the country\u2019s social security agency.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The programme targets retirees and Spanish citizens aged 55 and over\u2014including those living abroad and returnee migrants\u2014offering, upon application and approval, organised trips at subsidised rates throughout Spain and, in some cases, abroad.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The initiative promotes <strong>autonomy and physical-mental wellbeing among seniors<\/strong>, offering cultural and recreational activities designed to counter social issues such as loneliness and isolation, while making tourism more accessible and inclusive.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Available packages include transport, accommodation, basic healthcare, and a wide range of cultural and leisure activities\u2014all at affordable prices.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">One notable benefit is its impact on <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">low-season tourism flows<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. A case in point is Ibiza, where <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.diariodeibiza.es\/ibiza\/2022\/10\/27\/imserso-oferta-baja-ibiza-impacto-77759711.html\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">between October 2022 and April 2023<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, the arrival of 24,500 tourists through the Imserso programme generated an economic impact of \u20ac15.4 million, sustaining 289 direct jobs across six hotels and supporting additional indirect employment in local food service and hospitality sectors.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In the area of <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">thermal tourism<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/elpais.com\/economia\/2024-10-29\/balnearios-a-precio-reducido-el-imserso-ofrece-mas-de-190500-plazas-para-2025.html\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Imserso has allocated \u20ac34 million<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> to fund 190,513 stays across 84 wellness centres nationwide.
